Anchored deeply into its hillside coastal location this home is reminiscent of a wartime gun emplacement guarding over its 180 degree view of the Indian Ocean.

With a 12 meter fall from back to front and the client’s brief to preserve the natural topography of the site while maximising the spectacular ocean views this site represented some serious design challenges.
The resulting contemporary home design cascades effortlessly down the slope incorporating a large undercroft garage, workshop and utility area below natural ground level, bolstered and concealed by a rectangular infinity edge pool which sits approximately 1 meter below the first floor living, dining and kitchen areas. This central core features extensive floor to ceiling glazing which captures a complete arc of the 180 degree ocean views. There is a view from virtually every room in the home as the floor plan staggers back on each side from the central core allowing for large view catching corner windows. There is even a view from the spectacular free standing bath which is the focal point of the luxurious upstairs ensuite.
Larger than normal overhanging eaves incorporating timber lining for durability shelter the extensive flow of glazing from the worst of summer sun while accentuating the sleek contemporary horizontal bands of the lower and upper floors and making this home an iconic landmark.
